Britain's beauty queen did not get entry in US:Leanne Clive said - born in Syria, so America did not give visa to participate in Mrs World
A British beauty queen has been denied permission to travel to the US to participate in the global beauty contest Mrs World. Model Leanne Clive says she was denied a visa because she was born in Syria.
29-year-old Leanne Clive, a resident of Hessel, East Yorkshire, has to represent Britain in the Mrs. World final. He is a doctor by profession and is currently undergoing his training. Clive was quoted by BBC News as saying that her family was granted a visa to go to Las Vegas in the US, but she was denied a visa because she was born in Damascus, Syria. However, US officials declined to comment on Clive's case.
Work on women's issues and refugees
Married Clive has been living in the UK since 2013. He has learned to speak English. She has also campaigned for women's equality and the rights of refugees. She was scheduled to attend the 35th annual Mrs World event on 15 January. 57 other participants were to take part in this event. Married women take part in this beauty contest.
However, the non-receipt of a visa means that the UK will not send any of its representatives to the event. Clive said, "I applied with a British passport. I am representing the UK and I am a British citizen. But I didn't know that I would be barred from entering the US."
"My husband and my baby girl got visas, but I was denied, and it's all because of my birthplace," Clive said.
Hull West and Hessel Labor MP Emma Hardy said she was trying to intervene and rectify the situation. Clive has urged the US Embassy to use "common sense" to grant visas in time to participate in the competition. "I still have hope. I know time is short, but if someone from the embassy can look at my application, things may be different," he said.
US Administration Tough
on Syria On its website, the US government says that visa applicants who are citizens of countries with state-sponsored terrorism should be interviewed by a consular official. Syria is counted among countries where terrorism is considered state-sponsored.
